The history behind Ideal Computer Concepts is neither complex nor storied but nonetheless it is a history. In 1999 business.com sold for $7.5 million dollars after an entrepreneur bought the domain name in 1997 for $150,000. My uncle (Doug Beckett) and I (Thomas Dennis) were sitting in an office when the news was discovered. My uncle looked at me and said "Man, we need to get in on that." With that a company with a bright future was born. At the time a few people knew that we could build something called a web site and they started calling us. All these years later we are still a few million short of "getting in on that."
Over the years we have taken on many different projects. In 2000 we started working with one of our first clients, The Big Sky Business Journal, to help them figure out a way to publish content online. In 2002 we began developing a concept for the City of Billings, and most of the departments of the city as well. Although the City of Billings has since went a different direction, there are still many elements from the former site left over. Around 2005 we were also able to release our first full version of LoanTrac which was used by organizations such as Yellowstone Bank and Countrywide. Other projects have included work for businesses and organizations that range from shuttle services to promotional companies, and city to county governments. Our focus has always been on how to help companies manage content. We help clients in finding applications for their website that achieve a goal rather than merely exist.
We are not sure where our future will lead us, and we are not too worried about it. The reason we have stayed in business as long as we have is because of our ability to adapt to what comes along. We know that we will continue to be around, and we will continue looking for the right projects. Maybe someday our 7.5 million dollar project will come, but our path has helped us realize our true passion is helping businesses reach their potential.
